Description:

On 12 August, at Siggraph 2025 in Vancouver, Siggraph Pioneers Chair Ed Kramer was honored to interview Scott Ross, the founder of VFX powerhouse Digital Domain. Ross recently published “UPSTART: The Digital Film Revolution” and spoke about his history managing Industrial Light & Magic as it transitioned to CGI during “The Abyss” and “Terminator 2”, then founding the Oscar-winning Digital Domain studio with James Cameron and the late Stan Winston. Ross spoke about the broken business model in the VFX industry, the need for a VFX trade association, and how AI is set to radically transform the industry. The event was sponsored by the Siggraph Pioneers, an organization whose members have spent 20 years or more as researchers, developers, educators, artists and entrepreneurs in the Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques industries.
