Title:

    Colorization using harmonic templates

Abstract:

Manual colorization processes of monochrome images are time-consuming and expensive tasks. Therefore, many automatic colorization methods are proposed to reduce time and cost. Levin et al. [2004] proposed an automatic colorization technique to annotate the image with a few color scribbles by user. This technique can realize both good quality and efficiency. However, with this technique, user can’t verify the colorized result until all strokes are scribbled and no interactivity before completion can be achieved. Our method can colorize some regions of grayscale image interactively after segmenting the image, and further colorize the rest of the image automatically with the colors in harmonization with the colors of already colored regions using harmonic templates [Cohen-Or et al. 2006].
