Abstract:


    The transaction service of graphical contents over the Internet is now rapidly growing. For the advanced service, 2D picture attached with an additional value or information will develop the new business area. The tactile sensation of the picture is one of the candidates for such added values. Although the input and output interface using 3-D tangible device has been already developed [1], the applications of these devices were specialized and limited due to their high costs for sophisticated features. A Lift-Mouse is a tangible device which informs not only a stereoscopic effect of eyesight, but also an appearance of solidity of 2-D picture to the palm of the user’s hand. The number of actuator used in the Lift-mouse is only one, that will contribute to make the device much cheaper. The applications are not only limited to transactions of graphical contents, but also 3-D game controllers, and assistance for blind person to use web browser. In this paper, we firstly report a prototype of the Lift-Mouse and demonstrations of the experiment to tell the appearance of solidity of 2-D picture.
