W. Owen Brimijoin received a Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochester in 2006, for neurophysiological work on nonlinear receptive field characteristics in the inferior colliculus. He then moved into perception and psychophysics as an Investigator Scientist at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Scotland, studying spatial perception and hearing impairment. He is currently a research scientist at Meta’s Reality Labs Research. He combines research in spatial hearing, auditory motion perception, and conversation ecology to provide tractable ways to make audio and hearing assistance devices more capable of faithfully conveying a 3-D auditory world.
