Bio
Louise Sandhaus is a graphic designer and former faculty member and program director at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts. Her studio, LSD (Louise Sandhaus Design), is widely recognized for its contributions to design. Louise is the author of the acclaimed book Earthquakes, Mudslides, Fires & Riots: California Graphic Design 1936–1986 (Metropolis/Thames & Hudson) and, with Kat Catmur, A Colorful Life: Gere Kavanaugh, Designer (Princeton Architectural Press). Sandhaus also founded The People’s Graphic Design Archive, a crowdsourced platform preserving wide-ranging design history. In 2022, she received the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Medal.
