Carolyn Giardina is an award-winning journalist and author who has devoted her career to covering the art and science of entertainment. Having held editorial roles at publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and SHOOT, her authoritative coverage has spanned entertainment technology and the creative arts including VFX and cinematography. She’s covered key industry inflection points such as the DTV and digital cinema transitions and continues to examine the impact of emerging technology. She’s been recognized with American Cinema Editors’ Robert Wise Award, for journalistic contributions to film editing; International Cinematographers Guild’s Technicolor William A. Fraker Award, for journalistic contributions to cinematography; Women in Technology Hollywood’s Leadership Award; and Advanced Imaging Society’s Distinguished Leadership Award. Additionally, Carolyn is a lecturer at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts and co-authored a book about stereoscopic 3D filmmaking, “Exploring 3D” (Focal Press, 2012). Carolyn is an established conference speaker/moderator who has conducted panels and interviews for organizations including SIGGRAPH, Visual Effects Society, SMPTE, IBC, NAB, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
