Tech DIY for moms and kids: the D.I.Y. technology project for women

Abstract:

The gender gap between men and women in the electrical engineering and computer science field grows with the continual evolution of technology. Some parents, in many cases fathers alone, bring their daughters to technology exhibitions for the opportunity to familiarize them with science and electronics. Mothers are often excluded from family activities involving technology. Although there are many educational kits and toys for teaching science, themes that appeal to women are lacking. In general, it is very difficult to predict interests for female users because the features and concepts are often focused on males. I suggest that if mothers teach their daughters about science and technology over time, and stimulate their interests more often, both mother and daughter can become familiar with and have more confidence in their knowledge of technology.
