Description:
Virtual pets provide emotional support for those unable to own real animals, but existing systems rely on flat screens or stereoscopic displays, lacking embodiment and deep immersion. Even robotic pets with tactile feedback are constrained by their mechanical design, restricting dynamic interaction. We present Monsteroom, a Substitutional Reality-based system that integrates virtual reality, movable furniture, and smart appliances to simulate giant virtual pets within home environments. Leveraging spatial illusions and multisensory feedback, users can perceive the virtual pet’s giant-scale movement. By enabling embodied virtual pet interaction, Monsteroom explores new possibilities in virtual companions and smart furniture, offering users a unique experience.
