Henry Cogswell College’s Digital Arts Program offers career oriented education to the artists of the 21st century. With the convergence of so many artists’ tools on the personal computer, an artist’s success is increasingly dependent on his or her ability to integrate new technologies with their artistic vision. The goal of the Digital Arts Program is to provide artists with the ability to adapt their skills to continually evolving tool sets throughout their careers. The Digital Arts program is based on the philosophy of teaching traditional art, art history and design as the foundation for creating art and telling stories with digital technology. The curriculum features a broad foundation in digital content creation that integrates design, drawing, creative problem solving, critical thinking, analysis and communication, 3D modeling and animation, scriptwriting, story boarding, authoring for interactive media, film/video production and sound design. There are 3 components in the digital arts curriculum: general education (60 credits), digital arts core (37 credits), concentration electives (21 credits), and a free elective (3credits). These components are taken simultaneously, with general education and digital arts courses integrated into planned sequences. Students take a healthy mix of academic and studio courses each trimester. Students working toward the Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Arts have many concentration options to choose from. An elective sequence can be as flexible as a student’s goals and needs warrant. Academic advisor assistance in defining this sequence is required.
