SIGGRAPH 1979
DIGRAF is a machine-independent system of FORTRAN-callable subroutines for generating and interacting with computer graphics images. DIGRAF may be implemented on any computing system that supports 1966 ANSI FORTRAN IV. This includes implementation on 16-bit minicomputers. Graphics input and output is device independent. That is, programs that invoke DIGRAF subroutines can gen- erate images to or receive input from any supported graphics device without revising the application program. DIGRAF generates commands for a virtual graphics device. For each physical graphics device at a DI GRAF installation, a set of device-dependent routines, called a Device Driver, is required to interpret the virtual device commands and map them into the specific commands that drive a particular graphics display.
