Artist Statement:

The series RGB brings the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) into the material world. In crafting her weave, she meticulously extracted the red, green, and blue color values from a digital image of the CMB and translated them into the warp threads of her twenty-four-shaft dobby loom. These digital bits of color, representing the primordial origins of light, are given tangible form through careful selections of earthly cotton materials and skilled manual labor. The repetitive pattern she weaves creates a dizzying moir? effect, making the tapestry seem to tremble and expand in and out of depth. In this textile form, the CMB is re-envisioned not as a flat image on a screen but as a material that cloaks and permeates every object in the universe. Rosalena’s use of CMB maps allows her to delve into the origins of time, forging new connections between scientific data and the tactile processes of material craft, embodying a profound engagement with the physical and conceptual layers of her work.
