Description:
Going Bananas demonstrates several new techniques for computer graphics modeling. CalTech’s generative models are a new primitive for representing a wide variety of surfaces and solids. Special compositions of one-, two-and three-dimensional curves are used to specify the shapes. CalTech’s physically based modeling techniques, such as dynamic constraints, goal-oriented modeling and constrained flexible models, allow us to apply geometric constraints to rigid and flexible bodies and obtain physically realistic or otherwise interesting motions. The scenes were rendered by compositing static raytraced images with animated depth buffered models, providing the animation with diffuse raytraced shadows and depth-buffer projection shadows. Equipment included HP9000 SRXSeries 300 Workstations, Symbolics 3600 and an Ampex VPR3.
