Johnny Han is an award winning visual effects supervisor and 2nd unit director with 25 years of experience in the film, television, and advertising industries. Most recently, Johnny served as the VFX Supervisor and 2nd Unit Director on HBO’s limited series The Penguin, where he helped bring the world of Gotham City to life through a combination of practical and digital techniques. His previous credits include Superman Returns, Spider-Man 3, 2012, Pacific Rim, Smallville, Heroes, and The Nevers. He’s worked at some prestigious studios such as Lucasfilm ‘s ILM, ScanlineVFX, Framestore, Sony Imageworks, among others. Over the course of his career, Johnny has received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects, along with two Visual Effects Society Awards and six more nominations. He’s known for his collaborative approach and for bridging the gap between on-set production and inventive VFX and post-production solutions. In addition to his VFX work, Johnny is an accomplished commercial director, bringing a deep understanding of live-action filmmaking and computer animation to the fast-paced world of advertising. Originally from New York City, Johnny has worked internationally in Sydney, Singapore, Los Angeles, and London, and continues to split his time between the U.S. and the U.K. His experience across multiple markets and formats informs a practical, solutions-focused approach to visual storytelling.
