Description:
Step into an unparalleled cultural odyssey where history and cutting-edge technology converge. Goong is a groundbreaking Location-Based VR Experience (LBE) that resurrects the Joseon Dynasty’s last unrealized royal banquet within a meticulously reconstructed palace. By blending immersive storytelling, real-time interactions, and historically inspired performances, Goong offers audiences a multi-sensory journey through time—not just as passive viewers, but as active participants in history. This project pushes the boundaries of historical preservation through immersive media, utilizing advanced VR rendering techniques, real-time motion capture, and spatial audio to recreate the grandeur of Korea’s lost traditions. Through seamless integration of cultural heritage and virtual reality, Goong provides a rare, experiential gateway to the architectural elegance, ceremonial artistry, and dynamic court entertainment of the past. As an LBE experience, Goong highlights the potential of VR in expanding cultural accessibility, demonstrating how immersive storytelling can bridge gaps between past and present, East and West, physical and virtual. It invites SIGGRAPH audiences to explore how XR can revitalize intangible heritage while redefining the way we engage with history. By pioneering a high-fidelity, interactive reconstruction of an unrecorded moment in history, Goong contributes to the growing discourse on VR’s role in cultural storytelling and preservation, making it a compelling showcase for SIGGRAPH’s Immersive Pavilion.
