Abstract:

This paper presents a novel level-set method by combining gradient augmentation and reference mapping to enable high-fidelity interface tracking and surface tension flow simulation. At the center of our approach is a novel reference-map algorithm to concurrently convect level-set values and gradients, both of which are used to preserve volumes and interface features of a dynamic surface exhibiting small-scale volumes. In addition, we also developed an extrapolation scheme and a reinitialization algorithm to facilitate our novel level-set scheme. We showcase the efficacy of our approach by performing validation tests and comparing it with a broad range of interface tracking algorithms. We also test our algorithm in simulating surface tension flow phenomena such as raindrop collision and splashing.
