CHlLD announces its graphics workstation at SIG- GRAPH ’79. The system is called SIGHT … the first of an evolutionary chain of DISTRIBUTED GRAPHICS PROCESSING elements. Distributed Processing concentrates computing power in locations where actual solutions to problems are being sought. SIGHT adds the “GRAPHICS” to “DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING.” It provides graphics and imaging for any computer system without imposing a large computational load on the host processor. SIGHT off-loads graphics processing from the host by performing local manipulation, storage, and retrieval of graphic a,nd image data. The problem-solver is in full control. He need only contend for the shared resources of the host’s data base and computing power as required in his application. Each workstation includes an ADI color or high-resolution monochrome display generator; an LSl-11 , LSl-11 / 23, or I BM Series/ 1 minicomputer, and the unique SWING-B Programming System. Highly-interactive application packages for both image processing and object-oriented graphics are now available.
