Abstract:

When the leaves of a Mimosa are touched, the leaves can be seen to droop. “Seismonasty” is an interactive video artwork that simulates the movement of these plants and captures the tactile sensation of this “seismonastic” mechanism. When the leaves of the simulated plant are touched, their shape changes, and image displayed on the screen changes interactively. This work offers a proposal for a new form of art and science that incorporates the mechanisms of the plant world.
