Jonathan Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Johns Hopkins University. He received a B.A. in computer science and music from Duke University in 1991, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. At UNC he was a member of the Pixel-Planes/PixelFlow and Walkthrough Projects. His research interests include polygonal simplification, collision detection, parallel graphics APis, and 3D morphing. In the area of simplification, he has developed such algorithms as simplification envelopes, successive mappings, and appearance-preserving simplification. He also helped develop the I_COLLIDE collision detection system for large numbers of convex, polygonal polyhedra. He has taught courses that survey the field of rendering techniques as well as virtual world technology and applications. He has given a number of talks at SIGGRAPH and other conferences.
