Title:

    A method for 3D scene reconstruction from Ukiyo-e

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    In 1739, the method of perspective painting was introduced in Japan. Many painters of Ukiyo-e employed it for their paintings for a short period. However, from 1800 onwards, there were changes in the types of Ukiyo-e works. Many works of Ukiyo-e were created using the original composition and not the perspective method. The painters of this period, for example, Hokusai Katsushika and Hiroshige Utagawa, influenced the Japonizm of the West in the 1860s. This paper discusses a method for the transformation into a 3D scene that has the features of Ukiyo-e works. For developing this method, we quantitatively identify the features of Ukiyo-e of an architectural scene and develop a program for generating a composition like Ukiyo-e works from perspective images such as a photograph.
